This professional position is responsible for collecting and analyzing data relating to ongoing projects and programs. The Librarian verifies references and sources of supporting data of the museum collections and promotes information on Palauan culture. He/She further assists the Director and the staff in the feasibility studies in new projects and programs. Documentation of literary collections is a core component of the Museum.  Public relations is a daily task in order to serve students, scholars, teachers, researchers and the general public.  Proper processing of the literary resource materials is a must on a daily basis.

Specific Duties:

  • Acts as a keeper of the Research Library and supervises the Library Technician.
  • Organizes, acquires, and catalogs the literary materials to ensure usability and conducts conservation measures on the literary collections.
  • Liaises or networks with local and overseas libraries in library related work; responsible for acquiring literatures related to Palau, Micronesia and to a lesser extent the Pacific.
  • Researches and carries out collecting, analyzing and producing local myths, legends, stories and produces them for the Museum collections as well as for Ulekdubs Shop.
  • Processes literary resource materials in order to assist students, scholars, visitors and the general public.
  • Coordinates with other sections in collecting and acquiring ethnographic items and works of art through reference materials.
  • Works and coordinates with Collections Manager and Ethnobotanist in preparing for an exhibit, i.e. labels, descriptions (text) and cataloging.
  • Produces monthly and yearly work report.
  • Plans and implements field work and community outreach programs with the Education Coordinator. 
  • Plans and produces BNM newsletter, Imuul on a quarterly or on biennial basis in coordination with Pedagogy Section.
  • Develops and writes grant proposals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director or his/her appointed representative.

Qualification:

Must have at least a four-year college degree in library science or related fields in the humanities or a strong equivalent background experience in library related work. Be able to express herself/himself adequately and with confidence, both verbally and in writing in Palauan and in English.  Must have good communication and computer skills.
